Use liquid gasket when fitting a turbo, this may enter the turbo & cause severe damage. Why did your original Turbo fail? IMPORTANT DO NOT FIT YOUR TURBO UNLESS YOU HAVE THE ANSWER. The THREE MOST COMMON CAUSES ARE. This can be the result of Blockages i. Carbon particles, silicon contamination, bent or kinked pipes, leaking pipes, low oil level, worn/faulty oil pump or lack of oil priming when the turbo was fitted. Blockages & leaks in the air & exhaust system can alter the pressure at the turbo & cause oil leakage. This can be caused by fuel, water, foreign objects or carbon deposits, overdue oil or filter change, incorrect or poor quality oil or filter, malfunctioning filter bypass valve. Damage, can be due to leaks in the air intake system, particles remaining from the failed turbo, washers, gasket material, rag particles, etc in the air intake. Even a very small object can cause severe damage. (PLEASE ALSO REFER TO WARNING/ CRITICAL FITTING SHEET SUPPLIED WITH YOUR TURBO) SOME turbos come with critical fitting instructions. Such as oil pipe replacement, breather replacement, EGR replacement, which must be followed for a successful installation. Please refer to the envelope enclosed with your turbo for these critical instructions. The turbo is an integral part of the air fuel, cooling & oil systems, so ensure they are all working correctly, with the right fluid levels & no leaks or blockages. Replace any failed or suspect parts with new. Check the air intake pipes & exhaust manifold to ensure they are free from contamination, to avoid debris entering the turbo. Check the oil inlet & drain pipes are clean & free from obstructions, internal carbon & sludge. Clean or replace if necessary. Replace the engine oil & filter, remembering to prime the filter. Check the exhaust is free from cracks & carbon debris, & the studs are in good condition. Check the manifold casting is not cracked on the outside or breaking up internally. If in doubt, replace with a new part. Mount the turbo on the exhaust flange, checking the turbine gasket fits correctly to give a gas-tight seal. Connect the oil drain pipe. Prime the turbo by filling the oil feed hole with clean engine oil, rotate the rotor assembly by hand, to ensure the oil protects the bearings. Connect the oil feed pipe to the turbo. Lack of oil priming during fitting, & incorrect starting procedure, can cause premature turbo failure. Connect all other external fittings to the turbo. Make sure the engine oil circulates & the turbo is thoroughly lubricated before it operates under load. Disconnect the ignition system or fuel supply, so the engine turns over without firing up. Check the oil pressure warning light goes out. Reconnect the ignition or fuel supply & start the engine. Run it at a fast idle while you check there are no diagnostic fault codes, or oil, air, exhaust gas or fuel leaks. After driving your vehicle allow the engine to idle for 30 to 60 seconds to allow the oil to recirculate back through the turbo & the turbine shaft to stop spinning, thus preventing carbon build up. Please keep a record of oil & filter changes Thank you. Tab 4 Content Tab 4 Content Tab 4 Content.
